Apr 23, 2026
Meet Curt Mattila
Curt Mattila, Rise’s Champion of the Month for March 2026, has been a driver on the transportation team for nearly two years. Before coming to Rise, Curt spent 38 years working as an apartment maintenance technician, a career that shaped his strong work ethic and problem-solving skills. When asked what he values about working at Rise, Curt shared that “the people that we have working here are great, friendly, and help if needed,” showing the impact and dedication of the entire team.
Curt’s Impact
Curt creates a welcoming environment for everyone who steps onto the Rise bus. Riders regularly share how kind and respectful he is, and Rise team members notice how much care he puts into each interaction. One team member shared that Curt “brings a bright and friendly smile to work each day,” and that his positivity is felt by everyone around him.
Curt consistently goes above and beyond in his role as a driver. He assists with wheelchairs and mobility devices, responds calmly to last-minute transportation changes, and steps in to help without being asked. His supervisor, Jeff Jones, describes Curt as “self-directed, dependable, and always ready to lend a hand,” noting that he handles change with ease and maintains a positive attitude throughout his day.
Jeff also shared, “Curt is a true asset to our team, and I believe his consistent efforts and positive attitude deserve recognition across the organization. I hope this nomination helps shine a light on the impact he makes every day.” Curt’s daily actions, from holding doors to making sure riders feel safe and welcome, reflect his genuine care for the people he serves.
Curt is also thoughtful about communication. When he realized that a rider on his route uses tactile ASL, he asked how he could better communicate and took steps to ensure that person felt supported and understood, showing a commitment to Rise’s person-centered work.
Curt Outside of Rise
Outside of Rise, Curt enjoys a simple routine. He shared that “my only real hobby is playing golf. I’m not very good, but it relaxes me.”
Curt’s reliability and dedication to his role make him a strong example of what it means to be a Champion at Rise. The appreciation shared by riders, coworkers, and leadership highlights the positive impact he makes every day.
