Meet Wendy Gardner

July Champion of the Month, Wendy Gardner, has been an Employment Consultant with Rise since January 2022. As an employment consultant, Wendy supports individuals with disabilities in finding competitive employment in the East Metro area. Before joining Rise, Wendy worked as a Conference Services Coordinator at the University of Minnesota’s Continuing Education and Conference Center for 19 years. After the center closed due to COVID-19, Wendy saw it as an opportunity to pursue a more purpose-driven career. “It was a great opportunity to find a job with more purpose,” she shares.

Wendy’s favorite part of her role at Rise is watching the growth of those she supports. “I enjoy finding jobs for others that start out with an empty basket and watching them fill it with new skills and a sense of accomplishment,” she shares. For Wendy, it’s not just about helping people find a job; it’s about helping people build confidence and a sense of achievement.

Wendy’s impact

Her colleagues speak highly of her willingness to learn and grow. One coworker describes Wendy as someone who “is not afraid to ask questions” and is quick to reach out for help with the complexities of the job. Whether navigating administrative technicalities or employer relationships, Wendy’s openness and communication stand out. She is also praised for her persistence and ability to motivate individuals on her caseload, even when the effort is inconsistent. “Wendy has true grit,” says a colleague. “She finishes what she starts and pushes the boundaries of personal growth for both her and those on her caseload. Wendy has helped people keep jobs, grow in their jobs or secure employment with optimism and creativity. She inspires me daily to come to work.”

Outside of work, Wendy enjoys spending time with her springer/doodle and riding her Gypsy Vanner/Quarter Horse in weekly lessons and trail rides. She also loves walking and biking through local parks with her husband and enjoying good food and festivals.
