Meet Vanessa Barron

Champion of the Month for September 2024, Vanessa Barron, joined our team at Rise two years ago as an Employment Consultant in Hennepin County. She brings a variety of experiences to her role, including as a personal care assistant, childcare provider, and more.

Vanessa came to Rise because she “wanted to do more for and with individuals with disabilities.” She found a place with many offerings for learning and professional growth, saying, “I never dreamed it would be this wonderful.”

Vanessa is an excellent Employment Consultant who is very dedicated to her work. She shares, “What’s most gratifying is when I connect with people served and see them reach goals, even little ones.” As someone who has lived experience with a mental health diagnosis, Vanessa values her work supporting people she identifies with.

Vanessa’s Impact

Vanessa’s colleagues note that her personal philosophy of “treat everyone with respect” is clear in all her interactions with team members and the people she supports. In addition to excellence in her primary role, Vanessa has also stepped up to support during staffing shortages, adding work with our employment exploration programs to her list of accomplishments at Rise.

Vanessa’s team recognizes the way she demonstrates a willingness to step out of her comfort zone to learn new skills and embrace opportunities. Vanessa engaged in Mental Health Day on the Hill and also participated in information sessions about employment consultant work at Rise. Vanessa says, “I am very proud of sharing my role as an employment consultant to others in the company at the panel a few months ago. I had to really come out of my shell for that and I am grateful to have been part of it. “

Vanessa Outside of Rise

In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys video games and digging into her family genealogy. She has also picked up an interest in learning American Sign Language (ASL). Crafting and spending time with her child and a new step-granddaughter also take up Vanessa’s free time.
