Abigail (Abbey) Butzine served as an intern with Rise’s Marketing and Development Departments and plans to graduate from the University of Minnesota in May 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in retail merchandising with a minor in management and product design. She will  then pursue a career in the product development field.

“I want to make a meaningful contribution to the world and was intrigued by the services that Rise provides for people in need,” said Abbey. “With this internship, I felt I was able to contribute my skills and knowledge toward a cause that is meaningful to me.”

Abbey worked on a wide range of research, graphic design, and communication projects. One of her major tasks was helping create the Celebrate Rise Fundraising Gala sponsorship printed materials; she also designed Rise’s annual button which President Lynn Noren hands out on her visits to all Rise team members and the people we serve.

Also on Abbey’s list of major projects was creating a comprehensive manual of all the benefits and services available to team members for each of the twelve Chambers of Commerce of which Rise is a member. In addition, she researched both a “How’s My Driving” program for Rise Transportation as well as a donor program to collect spare change in stores and restaurants.

“My Rise internships not only gave me lots of professional connections, guidance, and advice, but it has allowed me to further develop my marketing skills,” said Abbey. “I have greatly improved my social media marketing, brand development and management, and graphic design skills.

“While some of my work was done independently, I also gained perspective from my coworkers and the other Rise interns and enjoyed working as a team. I learned a lot from everyone’s various perspectives.

“Everyone at Rise has made me feel like a valued team member, which has encouraged me to work hard every day at work. I have learned the importance of a strong team and a good work ethic.”
